Position Overview
Freddie Mac’s Single Family Division is currently seeking a Data Scientist Professional to be responsible for the development and execution of quantitative/analytic models and applications in support of business and risk decisions as a member of the Default Costing Modeling Team. You will apply statistical and machine learning techniques to build tools that will be used to improve models and fast prototype for business decisions about the mortgages in Freddie Mac’s portfolio.
Responsibilities include:
* Developing analytical methods and models that assess the credit risk of new and existing financial and mortgage products
* Developing and validating loss forecasting models, conducting researches on enhancements to the existing models, applying industry best practices and techniques to meet various business needs
* Use techniques from statistics, machine learning, and other data sciences to estimate predictive models from numeric, categorical, textual, geographic, and other data features
* Write programs to clean and analyze large volumes of structured and unstructured data
* Coordinating the testing through the model implementation, conducting back tests to monitor the model performance, performing economic tests and stress tests to validate the model forecast results
* Providing modeling and analytical support to a line of business or product area, functioning as day-to-day technical expert.
* Working under limited direction, independently determining and developing approach to solutions.

Qualifications
* Advanced degree in a quantitative discipline (statistics, computer science, mathematics, physics, engineering, econometrics etc.)
* At least one year of experience in data science or model development
* Strong programming skills in Python, R, SAS and SQL
* At least one year of experience in data science or model development

Preferred Skills
* Exceptional quantitative, empirical analysis, and research skills
* Experience using Linux and/or Unix
* Experience using Hadoop and related technologies (Spark, Hive, etc.)
* Experience with programming language such as R, Python, Matlab, VBA, Java and C++
* Good communication, interpersonal skills
* Experience working with mortgage or consumer credit risk models
