Job description
The Student Advisor assists students in achieving their educational goals by identifying barriers to student success and implementing proactive strategies that promote retention. This is achieved through daily student contact and advising.
Key Objectives for this role:
Interact daily with students via email, and phone, and respond to student questions/concerns
Closely monitor student progress to proactively identify at-risk scenarios
Assist students with degree completion planning, and track that course sequence is properly observed
Identify opportunities to develop, implement, measure, and improve academic success strategies
Coordinate retention efforts and student-related activities with instructors
Monitor grades and attendance
Provide advising and support for students on academic probation
Evaluate student problems and refer them to appropriate student support services
Serve as a student advocate for problem resolution
Maintain compliance and strictly adhere to all University policies and standards
Contribute to the academic team and support other functional areas including admissions, marketing, technology, and finance
Other duties as assigned.
Desired Skills and Experience
The ideal candidate will have:
Bachelor's degree in education, counseling, or related.
Master’s degree strongly preferred.
Must have a strong commitment to education and have the demonstrated counseling or coaching skills required to effectively keep online students engaged
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Ability to adapt to new and rapidly changing situations
Demonstrated integrity and commitment to the highest ethical standards when interacting with students, faculty, and staff
Critical problem solving skills, enthusiasm, and commitment
Able to perform multiple tasks while attending to details
Comfortable with web-based technologies and experience with one or more learning management systems a plus
Must be available to work some evening and weekend hours
