Job summary:
Under the direction of the Human Resources Head performs a variety of responsible professional, technical and analytical classification and compensation activities related to the maintenance of the college compensation system. Maintains and ensures consistent application of the college’s classification standards for job classes.
Typical duties and responsibilities:
Reviews new positions and determines if an existing description can be used for classification. When necessary, modifies and creates new descriptions which accurately reflect current roles, responsibilities and requirements.
Conducts ad hoc surveys (via PayScale) to obtain and analyze market pay rates. Reviews recommendations for internal equity. Prepares reports on findings and handles administrative steps to formalize recommendations.
Evaluates jobs and prepares written reports on required audits. Communicates with stakeholders regarding the result of compensation work.
Makes recommendations on appropriate job/pay grade levels according to employee career development plans.
Reviews jobs for reorganizations, contractual reviews and projects, including both job audit and evaluation.
Reviews, writes up, interprets and updates policies.
Manages and tracks projects within HR team.
Provides backup for payroll and other HR activities as needed
Researches situations as they arise related to aspects of compensation to provide clarity for resolution in consideration of contract provisions, historical practices, similar situations, etc.
Develops and documents procedures to streamline processes and ensures compliance with regulatory requirements.
Provides analytical support and data analysis on projects and human resource metrics.
Reviews and recommends salary placements for new hires to ensure appropriate classification and pay range.
Provides data input and calculates solutions to annual salary adjustment
Participates in annual budget activities and reports
Positions in this classification may perform all or some of the responsibilities above and all positions perform other related duties as assigned.
Minimum qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree or higher in Human Resources, Business or other discipline directly related to the position. Relevant experience may substitute for the degree requirement on a year-for-year basis.
3-5 years’ experience performing HR projects, compensation and data analysis.
Knowledge and skills:
Knowledge of:
Human Resources principles and best practices in compensation including job analysis/evaluation;
Applicable Federal, State, and local rules, regulations and/or statutes;
Research methods and data analysis techniques;
Employee relations principles and practices;
Advanced skills in Microsoft office suites (esp. Excel for analysis of data and PowerPoint for presentation preparations)
Customer service principles.
Skill in:
Conducting studies and preparing sound recommendations;
Analyzing and interpreting policies, practices and procedures;
Preparing written reports for varied audiences;
Maintaining confidentiality;
Conducting research, analyzing information and data and presenting findings in a concise format;

Building a rapport with employees and managers in conducting job reviews;
Maintaining HRIS ADP Resource, LMS learning & training programs
