Job Summary
We are looking for exceptional engineers with the desire to build the hardware for the virtualized data centers of the future. You should have the experience, knowledge of industry trends and cutting edge technologies, and the knack to take commodity x86 servers and storage components and build powerful, energy efficient, highly scalable and highly serviceable converged servers and storage appliances of the future. You will lead projects of HW selection, qualification and validation efforts for server/storage platforms, collaborate with Software Engineering and Product Management on product requirements and capabilities, and propose/deliver solutions for alternative hardware platform architectures, along with impacts on overall system performance. You will partner with the software engineering team and will be responsible for validating hardware operation, standards compliance, firmware capabilities and system interfaces. You will be one of the hardware technology experts within the company.
Responsibilities:
Lead projects of HW selection and qualification for next generation server/storage platforms.
Develop HW Platform Qualification test plans and solutions, conduct the hands-on work, analyze the results. The HW qualification needs to cover both system performance & functionalities/reliabilities.
Evaluate and qualify motherboards, memory, CPUs, add-on cards, chassis components, and thermal/power in the data center environment.
Qualify the functionalities of the latest data center storage HW (SSD) & networking (10G/100G) in a virtualization environment. Work with the SW development teams for any HW performance issues.
Evaluate and qualify BIOS/controller firmware/device drivers; resolve HW/SW interaction issues.
Maintain prototypes/equipment, develop & maintain tools for all programmable HW.
Develop automated HW tests & programming utilities & HW workload tests for manufacturing teams.
Define and document system configurations, work with all functions for new product release.
Participate in the definition of new platform hardware roadmap, including reviewing the latest technologies, proposing new solutions, and qualifying the feasibilities.
Sustaining Support for currently shipping platforms:
Select and qualify 2nd source components (SSD, HDD, DIMM, PCIe cards, etc.).
Interface w/ suppliers on product life cycle and component roadmaps.
Work with Support & Sales teams on any customer escalation issue.
Provide HW support and Failure Analysis for Field Returns. Provide solutions for new customer application requirements.
Requirements:
Thorough understanding of modern x86 server architectures and storage/networking technologies (PCIe, SSD, SATA, SAS, NIC, RDMA, Switches Intel processors, etc.).
Good understanding of BIOS/EFI, BMC, IPMI, Linux, Hypervisor, etc.
Programming experience with Python, shell, or any open source Linux/Window system SW coding. Strong scripting and automation programming skill.
Must self-drive, and be able to work independently with limited supervision.
Good verbal communication & collaboration skills.
Familiarity with virtualization technologies a plus.
Experience and Qualifications:
BS/MS/PhD in CS/EE or related fields
