As a Member of Technical Staff – Kernel Engineering, you will be responsible for developing, testing and debugging VMware’s core Virtualization and Cloud Platform products. The right candidate will be responsible for ESXi operating system and core virtualization infrastructure. They will work with various kernel teams to design and deliver new functionality, mainly targeted for virtualization workloads.
As a member of VMware’s Software Defined Data Center organization you will directly contribute to the creation of the next generation of Storage, Networking, and Server Virtualization solutions. You will help deliver high quality, well-architected system software products and solutions based on a fully integrated enterprise-class virtualization platform. Your responsibilities will include design, implementation, testing, and debugging of systems software.Requirements:
• Pursuing a Bachelors, Masters or PhD degree in Computer Science, Electrical and Computer Engineering or some other relevant technical degree.
• Excellent C programming skills.
• Familiarity with kernel performance analysis and optimization
• Advanced knowledge of operating systems internals and low-level code development.
• Excellent understanding of operating system concepts and kernel components.
• Strong analytical and debugging skills.
• Experience in designing and developing kernel level projects
• Experience with writing high-quality, well-architected and well-documented code.
• Good verbal and written communication skills.
• Experience in developing modular and extensible code.
• Strong experience with kernel level programming, performance analysis and optimization.
• Knowledge of x86 assembler, C++, Java, Perl, Python and other programming languages.
• Good understanding of modern Intel and AMD x86-based processor architectures.
• Experience with SMP, memory management, CPU management, multi-tasking and device drivers.
• Previous relevant internship experience is strongly preferred.
Nice to have:
