The Position

The Department of Protein Chemistry & Structural Biology within Genentech Research and Early Development (gRED) is offering an internship opportunity.
In this position, you will assist an IT infrastructure engineer to deploy several Structural Biology and Cryo-electron microscopy (Cryo-EM) applications and develop automation for business critical workflows within the Protein Chemistry and Structural Biology Department.

Specific responsibilities for this position may include:

• Build, deploy, and test scientific applications on a Linux cluster and other Unix-like operating systems
• Program and document of an application which may include programming one or more parts of the system (including back-end and interface)
• Automate file-level data transfers between several local and remote storage appliances.
• Develop the processes and tools for optimal researcher productivity
• Assist the IT infrastructure engineer with infrastructure considerations including but not limited to, networking protocols, SAN/NAS/local storage, & database configuration.
• Communicate to key business and technical stakeholders.
